2008 As well as monthly meetings we arrange regular drives and events. As you will appreciate, the winter months do not lend themselves to open air driving, so January and December tend to get a miss. There is also a break for the main holiday month of August. Drives are normally held on the Sunday seventeen days following the monthly meeting. Some ideas for future drives and events...
Use this drop down list to jump to the month you want... January
Sunday 20 Meet up for breakfast from 10:00 at the Swan, Whittington, just off junction 7 of the M5 - Map A wonderful breakfast is booked at the Swan after which we will take a drive (weather and floods permitting) through the Suckley Hills, heading towards the Teme Valley, ending up at Webbs of Wychbold for some potential retail therapy perhaps! February Sunday
24 A drive out to a pub in Abergavenny called The Hen & Chickens where we will enjoy lunch followed by live jazz entertainment! Meet up at one of two rendezvous points... Gloucester (Longford Inn, A38) 10:30 for 10:45 departure - Map ...and... Ross-on-Wye (Labels top Car Park) 11:30 for 11:45 departure - Map We are booked in for Sunday lunch at 13:00, which comprises a main course for about £6 and a dessert for about £3. A big thank you to Mark for organising this one!March Sunday 30 Please note this drive is one week later than normal Organisers - Mike and Shirley Crowe The Snowdome, Tamworth Meet up for breakfast from 10:00 at the Swan, Whittington, just off junction 7 of the M5 - Map Due to the popularity of tobogganing sessions it was impossible to book places at short notice for our January trip; hopefully we will have more success this time! So, pretty much the same itinerary that was intended for January… i.e., start with breakfast at 10.00 am at ‘The Swan’, Whittington, then zoom off in a northerly direction via the M5 & M42 towards Tamworth. Followed by a midday session of fun, for both us daredevils (or fools) who are going to have a go, and the spectators, who will either be laughing their heads off and wishing they’d had a go… or more likely laughing their heads off and relieved that they didn’t! I will try for the 13:00 slot, which should give us time for all of the above and to attend the safety brief given before we go screaming down the slope. Please read important information regarding tobogganing and type of clothing to be worn… snowdome.co.uk To ensure spaces it would be good if people could start putting their names down on the forum thread ASAP... just post your interest on the thread and I will add you to the list. Please specify whether you want to do a tobogganing session or just be a spectator. The Snowdome does not accept reservations or deposits and requires the full amount at time of booking. If you intend to toboggan I will need the full amount (£8 per ½ hour session) before I pay. You could post it to me (pm me for my address) or bring it to our next meeting on 7 February where I will get final names and numbers. I will make Friday 8 February the cut off point and attempt to book on that day. April Sunday 20 Organised by David and Lesley Boats, Planes & Automobiles Meet at The Holt Fleet Inn, Holt Fleet (WR6 6NL) at 10:00 prompt - Map The run will follow a scenic route northwards along the western side of the River Severn and will finish around 12:30-13:00 at the RAF Museum, Cosford. The run will be about 50 miles. There will be a coffee/loo stop at a riverside pub. Entry to the museum is absolutely free! There is a self-service restaurant at the museum selling cafe style meals for about £5.00 a head. Alternatively, members can bring their own picnic. We are hoping that the museum will allow us to park together on a hardstanding area next to the new Cold War Exhibition hanger.
Organisers Lynn and Julie We will be meeting at the southbound side of St Michael Wood Services at 09:30 to leave promtly at 10:00 for the magical mystery tourPlease could you let us know if you're able to make it - click here and post to let us know June Sunday 22 Organisers Mike and Julie Ellerslie
Drive and BBQ The start of the Sunday run is at the Dean Heritage Centre at Soudley, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, GL14 2UB - Map The cafe will be open from 09:15 for you to purchase a hearty breakfast or a buttie. Its also worth looking in the shop below. The route will be given out on the day and the first cars should leave the centre around 10:00. There are plenty of places to stop and admire the beautiful countryside and towards the end of the run the pubs will be open! But don't forget Julie and Mike will be looking forward to seeing you all back at Beechenhurst Lodge, for the barbeque, which kicks of at about 13:00. When you enter Beechenhurst inform the stewards that you are from the MX-5 Owners' Club, which has booked the events field so you do not have to pay. There are 2 barbeques, one for meat and the other for vegetarians. Julie will be supplying jacket potatoes, salad, and French sticks plus paper plates and glasses. If you want them to look after anything i.e. sausages, steak, they can keep them in the fridge during the run. (Expecting it to be a very warm day!!!!!) At Beechenhurst there is a lodge that sells ice creams, cold and hot drinks, and has toilets. There is usually an exhibition of some kind at the lodge, walks around the sculpture trail and leaflets available to guide you round, and hopefully some games such as rounders. Please bring rugs or seats. If you wish to attend please email so that Mike and Julie have some idea of
