This riverside pub has been a licensed house since at least the mid 18th century, when it doubled as a coal wharf with passing barges taking coal upstream. The interior is one bar nearly the whole length of the premises and has exposed beams and a tiled floor. Good quality home-cooked meals are served up to 13:45 lunchtime and 21:00 evenings. Stone steaks are a speciality. Outside a patio overlooks the River Severn making it a lovely spot to while away a summer evening. The pub has its own moorings and is on the Severn Way. The approach road is liable to flooding in the winter.

The Royal Oak, Gretton Road, Gretton, near Winchcombe, GL54 5EP

Beers - Goffs Jouster Ale, Hook Norton Best Bitter and regular guest beers
Ever popular pub, bought in June 2000 by a group of locals with low beams and extension overlooking the Vale of Evesham and set in two acres of grounds. The Royal Oak dates from about 1830. The building probably became a public house between 1868 and 1870, having been converted from two cottages. The L-shaped bar serves a long room and the modern no-smoking conservatory offers magnificent views. Children's play area. The Gloucestershire-Warwickshire railway runs past bottom of garden. Live music on Wednesdays. You can work up a thirst by booking the pub's tennis court. The Gretton Beer & Music Festival is held here in July.
61-65 Hucclecote Road, Hucclecote, Gloucestershire, GL3 3TW
01452 616552
Beers - Greene King Old Speckled Hen, Marston's Pedigree, Wadworth 6X, Castle Eden Fuggles Imperial IPA and Whitbread Flowers Original
Modernised single bar with sectionalised seating areas and separate games area. Live jazz on Sunday lunch-times. Lively community pub.
The original Royal Oak was a stone built pub, with tiled roof, a rendered front, two small bay windows and a central entrance. In the 1920’s it even boasted its own bowling green. In 1957 the house next door, Sunnybank, was purchased by the Stroud Brewery and the licence was transferred. The Stroud Brewery built a large annex onto the house and the original Royal Oak was demolished to make room for a car park. Still trading today, it is a popular suburban pub.
